Sometimes you need to keep OpenVMS hosts from overloading a SAN storage controller fibre channel port. The SANCP utility, new in V8.3, allows you to limit the number of I/O requests “in flight” to that fibre channel port on the SAN storage controller. This is often needed in “Tier 1″ storage environments, which share resources across numerous hosts. The SANCP utility allows you to set the WTID cap. That acronymn stands for the World-wide id Thottle I/o Descriptor.

HP OpenVMS Version 8.3 New Features and
Documentation Overview
|
|
The SANCP utility allows you to limit the number of active I/Os a host
may have across all paths to Logical Unit Numbers (LUN) on a given
Fibre Channel storage port. A storage port can be selected by a
discrete or wildcarded port World Wide ID (WWID) or by a product ID
substring.
|
The SANCP utility processes a command and qualifiers passed to it on
the command line, allowing it to be executed from a DCL script, or it
prompts you if started with no command. For more information about the
SANCP utility, see the SANCP Help facility. |

Unfortunately, due to my work load I did not notice this email until recently. I fear I do not immediately recognize the language. I’ve poked at a few translations via the Google translator widget.
However, it appears Andre is asking a support question about 8.3 with a DS10 with the 5.9 firmware. I will email Andre directly.

Well, I just heard from Andre:

I recognized it as a Romanic language, I just had not guessed Portuguese.
Sometimes this type of problem can be due to older AlphaServers that do not in fact use newer versions of the AlphaServer firmware. While they should load (but not really change anything), if the AlphaServer is no longer sold and supported, they are not always checked. I do not know if that is true in this case.
At the moment you can get the latest version of the firmware at:
http://www.hp.com/go/alphaserver/
Then goto the “Retired systems” page (toward the bottom left):
http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/archive
Then under the Retired Alpha systems, selecct the AlphaServer DS10 system:
http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/archive/ds10/
You can the select the Firmware link:
http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/firmware/readmes/ds10.html
There you can see 7.3 should work. However, there is a 7.3-1 (an updated version), so someone else may have encountered a similar problem. At any rate that page provides pointers on how to download the latest firmware versions. If that still does not work, then you will need to contact the HP customer support center for more help.
Remember, neither FisherFindings nor this FisherNotebook is a support tool. However, I don’t mind showing you what is freely available from the HP website. Hope it helps.
